It’s official. The NFL’s offices handed down its six-game suspension to Kansas City Chiefs star Rashee Rice. He has accepted. That means when the defending AFC Champions host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2, they’ll be doing so without one of Patrick Mahomes’ better weapons. That signifies a distinct advantage for Philadelphia. This is undoubtedly a game that everyone has circled on their calendars.
News broke one day after the deadline for summertime roster cuts. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was among the first to report. This all stems from a car crash Rice was involved in 2024.
Rice was a second-round pick made by the Chiefs in the 2023 NFL Draft. He owns the NFL record for most postseason receptions made by a rookie (26). His last meeting with the Eagles ended in the second Super Bowl win in Franchise history.
According to Pelissero, the League offices and the NFLPA are working to finalize a settlement, one that seeks a six-game suspension as its punishment. That makes Rice eligible to return in Week 7 vs. the Las Vegas Raiders.
The dates and time is set for what will be billed as a great team between two of the best teams in their respective conferences. The Eagles meet the Chiefs on September 14 at 4:25 p.m. EST, but since we’re on the subject, we thought we might revisit the following question. How on Earth is this not a primetime game on the Week 4 slate?
