The Seattle Seahawks have taken care of part one of their two-part roster task for this week. On Tuesday, the team pared its roster down from the 90-man limit to 53, but the initial 53 is almost never the roster you see for Week 1 of the regular season. Wednesday is all about waiver claims and practice squads, which can be formed as soon as the waiver deadline expires. Will the likes of Damien Martinez, Jacardia Wright, Patrick O’Connell, Ricky White III, and Brandon Pili be able to get through waivers and sign with the Seahawks practice squad as expected? We’ll find out soon.
Follow Field Gulls’ tracker throughout Wednesday for the latest updates on the Seahawks practice squad, as well as any Seahawks waiver claims news.
Practice squad formation rules
- Teams can start forming their practice squads at 9:01 am PT on Wednesday, Aug. 27. The waiver wire claims process ends at 9 am PT. The Seahawks are 18th in the waiver wire order.
- No one claimed off waivers can go directly to the practice squad. They must immediately go to the active roster.
- A maximum of 16 players can be signed to the practice squad, with an additional 17th player allowed through the International Pathway Program.
- Players who are not subject to waivers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Quinton Bohanna can go to another active roster as free agents, or they can sign to a practice squad. Everyone else who goes through the waiver wire must wait until they clear waivers to be eligible to sign onto a practice squad.
- A maximum of 6 practice squad slots can be allocated to players with at least two years of accrued NFL experience. To gain an accrued NFL season, a player must have participated in six or more regular season games on a club’s active/inactive, reserve/injured or reserve/PUP list.
