The municipality commemorated World Cancer Day with the reading of a Manifesto and the presentation of the poster for the Night Race Against Cancer sporting event, the proceeds of which will go to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
To mark World Cancer Day on February 4, the Town Hall of Albox, together with the Local Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), held a gathering in the Plaza Mayor. The event began with the reading of a Manifesto, sending a message of support to all those diagnosed with cancer and encouragement to continue confronting a disease that is expected to affect around 4,700 people in the province of Almería this year, according to estimates from the Andalusian Society of Medical Oncology (SAOM).
The mayor of Albox, María del Mar Alfonso, along with the president of the Local Board of Albox, María Sáez, and other members of the local government and the association presented a new edition of the ‘Albox en Marcha Contra el Cáncer’ Night Race to be held on April 30, with all proceeds going entirely to the Local Board of the AECC.
The charity race hopes to beat its own record again after last year’s record of 750 participants. The race will cover five kilometres through the town centre, starting and finishing in the Plaza Mayor. It will be a true celebration, where both adults and children can enjoy various activities throughout the afternoon. The children’s races will kick off at 6pm, followed by the general race an hour later.
Participants’ race packs will include a pink T-shirt, a symbol of the fight against cancer. A large turnout is expected, with groups of friends, families, and athletes taking part, either running or walking, as the most important thing is to support the Spanish Association Against Cancer.
