No. 3 (CFP) Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0 SEC) is two days from taking on No. 16 Texas (8-3, 5-2 SEC) for the first Friday night game in the Lone Star Showdown. The teams face off for the second consecutive season after a decade-plus hiatus. For the Aggies, a trip to the SEC championship game is on the line, while the Longhorns are hoping a 9-3 finish will be enough to earn a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Either way, I expect this to be a heated contest that could come down to the final possession, especially if Texas quarterback Arch Manning continues to play at an elite level after six total touchdowns during last Saturday’s 52-37 win over Arkansas.

However, Texas A&M is 11-0 for a reason. It looks like one of the most complete teams in the country. While starting quarterback Marcel Reed has played at a Heisman level with 31 total touchdowns, the Aggie defense is second nationally in sacks (39). The pass rush is led by senior edge Cashius Howell’s 11 1/2 sacks and 30-plus pressures.
Still, this rivalry has produced plenty of surprising results, meaning the Aggies will need to play their best football not only to reach the SEC title game but also to avoid a potential drop in the College Football Playoff rankings. With the game on Friday, all game-week activities have been moved up a day, including Texas A&M’s uniform reveal.
For the first time since 2010, Texas A&M will head to Darrell K Royal Texas Memorial Stadium. It will wear maroon helmets, white jerseys and maroon pants, which is a standard road look. It will not clash with the Longhorns’ standard burnt orange uniform.
Here is Texas A&M’s official reveal video featuring star wide receiver KC Concepcion.
