In 2025, demand for holidays in Germany continues to grow.
The travel industry has noted a 12 per cent increase in sales and a 6 per cent rise in the number of travellers compared to last year.
This was confirmed by Travel Data + Analytics (TDA), which analysed booking data from travel agencies and online portals. The study was conducted for the German Travel Association (DRV).
DRV President Norbert Fiebig shared the good news that travel remains a top priority for German consumers in 2025. He also pointed out that Germans are booking their summer holidays earlier than before, with early booking becoming the new trend, replacing last-minute planning.
Greece is the third most popular destination for Germans in 2025, with many choosing Mediterranean beach spots. The data shows growing interest in organised flights to Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean, along with cruises and long-haul trips. Turkey remains the most popular destination, especially for families.
The most popular holiday spots for Germans this summer are Turkey, Spain, Greece, Egypt, Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, the USA, the Maldives, and Bulgaria. Egypt saw the biggest rise in bookings by the end of January, with a 35 per cent increase, while the Maldives grew by 27 per cent. Tunisia, Bulgaria, and Egypt have become more popular because they have kept price increases lower than other destinations.
Albania is emerging as a rising star for German travellers. The country saw a 36 per cent increase in bookings for the summer, although its sales are still lower compared to other Mediterranean destinations. More tour operators are including Albania in their summer programmes, and it’s expected to attract even more visitors in the future.
In 2024, German spending on travel reached a new record of €83.4 billion, a 5.6 per cent increase from the previous year.
