Along with half of the US’ glitterati, Taylor Swift was present at this year’s Super Bowl at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. And there were plenty of firsts on the night.
America’s biggest sporting event turned into the biggest star-studded spectacular on Sunday, February 10, as the who’s who list of US society descended on the Crescent City. First up on the big screen was Taylor Swift, and it didn’t go well.
Taylor Swift’s shock at being booed visible to whole stadium
The world’s most popular singer was there to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce, who was playing in the American Football final for the Kansas City Chiefs. However, no doubt a first in her illustrious career, she was booed throughout the stadium, mostly by fans of rival team the Philadelphia Eagles. Her reaction was one of shock and was seen by everyone on the massive Jumbotron TV screen.
Making another first, a presidential visit to the game, Donald Trump couldn’t resist tweeting from the stands, ‘The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!’ Swift had endorsed Mr Trump’s rival Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Other than Taylor Swift, celebrities seen in the stadium included Jay-Z, Sir Paul McCartney, Bradley Cooper, Adam Sandler, Paul Rudd and Kevin Costner.
First US president to attend Super Bowl
Before the match got underway, Trump made another first: the first-ever appearance of a serving president at a Super Bowl game. He walked onto the pitch to shake hands with victims and families of the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans when a truck drove into a crowd of revellers in the city’s iconic Bourbon Street. Trump was greeted with a mix of cheers and boos from the more than 73 thousand in the stadium.
One of the biggest parts of the show is also the halftime show, which this year featured Samuel L. Jackson dressed as Uncle Sam introducing rapper Kendrick Lamar.
