The Association Calanova Cancer Care Charity was opened on November 11, 2011 and is now in its 14th year, run completely by volunteers, generally around 25 to 30 from all different nationalities, mostly retired ladies.
Over that time, it has raised hundreds of thousands of euros and the money is shared amongst four Mallorca based cancer charities, ASPANOB fighting Children’s Cancer, AECC, the Spanish Association of Cancer in Baleares, DIME offering palliative care and CANCER SUPPORT for everyone but mainly foreigners.
So well known is the Calanova Cancer Care Charity that on February 4, International World Cancer Day, a team from Mallorca Television Station IB3 visited one of its shops and spoke about the charity with President Angela and long serving supporter Anna-Lisa.
Calanova Cancer Care Charity always needs volunteers especially strong men and young people
One of the problems that were identified is the fact that with so many retired supporters there will be a future need for younger people to become involved and to bring new ideas to the vital fundraising work that the charity undertakes.
Another need is for some strong men who would be prepared to move and collect heavy items, especially furniture.
Anyone who feels that they could volunteer some time between 10am and 2pm, even if only one day a month is invited to visit the big main shop at 356 Avenida Joan Miro, San Agustin, Palma 07015 to discuss how they can help.
