Is the Kansas City Chiefs’ reign over? If you let Chris Simms tell it, 2025 is the year that the reign ends, via the Denver Broncos. Simms recently spoke with Kay Adams on her “Up & Adams” show, and he declared that the Broncos will upset the Chiefs and win the AFC West. His reason? He feels that Chiefs fatigue will catch up to the franchise, and Broncos head coach Sean Payton will take Denver to the next level.
Simms isn’t far off in his proclamation for Denver. Payton won eight games in his first season and ten wins in his second season as he led the Broncos to their first playoff appearance since the 2015 Super Bowl-winning campaign. Payton won a Super Bowl title as the New Orleans Saints head coach, and he accomplished nine ten-plus winning seasons. With Bo Nix in Year 2 in Payton’s system, and after adding pieces like Dre Greenlaw on defense, Simms isn’t far off.
The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls in six years, and back-to-back from 2022-2023. They aren’t the youngest anymore: Patrick Mahomes will turn 30 this month and Travis Kelce turns 36 next month. But as it always goes: the work happens in the field. Hopefully the Broncos can execute and make Simms’ prediction come true.
NFL Network’s Manti Te’o also predicted Denver will win the division this fall:
