The Seattle Seahawks officially introduced wide receiver Cooper Kupp on Tuesday afternoon as the newest member of the team. The Yakima native and Eastern Washington University standout is now back in his home state as a Seahawk. A true full-circle moment for the Super Bowl MVP.
Of course, the burning question among fans eager to get their hands on a new jersey has been… “what number will Kupp wear in Seattle?” Kupp’s No. 10 jersey has been one of the more iconic ones in the NFL in recent memory, and it’s what he has been wearing since the 2020 season. It was also what he wore when he was torching collegiate secondaries on the Inferno in Cheney, WA. However, No. 10 is currently occupied by pass rusher Uchenna Nwosu.
Or, should I say… it was.
When Kupp was introduced, he held up his new Seahawks jersey, which had his classic No. 10 on the back. Kupp had worked out a deal with Nwosu to obtain No. 10 from him, and explained the “cost” was donating to Nwosu’s foundation.
The day prior to Kupp’s introductory press conference, Nwosu teased on his Twitch stream about how “the number’s not for sale” but playfully added “If he really really wants it, maybe I’ll think about it. How bad (does he) want it, though?” Of course, Nwosu clarified his comments by following up with “”If Cooper Kupp really wants the number, brah, I’ll give it up to him!”
I speculated Kupp would likely “pay” for the jersey by donating to a charity of Nwosu’s choosing, which is exactly what appears to be happening. I also predicted this would be settled quickly. Now the Seahawks can get busy stocking the Pro Shop with No. 10 Kupp jerseys in all shapes and sizes.
My next “bold” prediction: Cooper Kupp Seahawk jerseys are about to be the most commonly spotted item of clothing on game days in Cheney this fall.
