As Easter draws near, the Costa Blanca’s tourism industry is already warming up.
After the quiet winter months, hotels across the region — especially in Benidorm and southern Alicante — are preparing for the first big wave of visitors in 2025, with early figures suggesting a potentially record-breaking season.
According to the latest data released by Hosbec, the hotel association for the Valencian Community, March brought a steady performance despite poor weather, and April is shaping up even stronger, with advance bookings already ahead of last year.
Benidorm drives Costa Blanca tourism growth
Unsurprisingly, Benidorm continues to drive the region’s tourist success, reporting 78 per cent occupancy in March — up four percentage points from the same time last year.
This rise is partly thanks to the celebration of St Patrick’s Day, a favourite among British visitors, who remain the city’s largest international market. For April’s first fortnight, bookings have already reached 75.7 per cent, again four points higher than in 2024 — despite Easter falling in March that year.
Hosbec’s analysts expect this upward trend to continue, as last-minute bookings start to trickle in and warm spring weather draws more travellers to the coast.
Costa Blanca sees surge in international tourists
Across the broader Costa Blanca region, international tourism played a leading role in March, particularly among British (14 per cent) and Belgian (8 per cent) visitors. This marks a noticeable shift from the previous year, when domestic tourism made up over half of all guests.
Even though the region’s overall hotel occupancy dipped slightly — from 77.4 per cent in March 2024 to 76.3 per cent this year — the difference is easily explained by calendar shifts, with Easter falling later in 2025.
Still, hotels in southern Alicante are celebrating strong results. March closed with an impressive 82.1 per cent occupancy rate, far above the 76.8 per cent posted last year. The second half of the month alone saw 80.5 per cent, compared to 76.5 per cent in the same period of 2024.
Easter holiday bookings point to record April for Costa Blanca
Looking ahead, April’s hotel bookings are already looking solid. Across the Costa Blanca, 71% of rooms are already reserved for the Easter period — and in Alicante South, that figure climbs to 76.4%.
The hospitality sector is optimistic that, if this pace continues, 2025 could even surpass the record-breaking year of 2024.
