A dramatic rescue unfolded in the rugged hills above Marbella this week after a woman suffered an ankle injury while out hiking – leaving her stranded and unable to walk back down.
The incident took place on Wednesday, April 2, afternoon at the Los Gitanos viewpoint, a scenic but steep spot near the area known as Los Monjes, when the hiker found herself unable to descend after twisting her ankle.
The alarm was raised at precisely 2.46 PM, when a call to 112 emergency services alerted authorities to the situation. A swift response followed, with Marbella’s Fire Brigade dispatching a rescue team consisting of four firefighters and a mountain-ready pick-up vehicle equipped for just this kind of rugged operation.
Thanks to her mobile phone signal, emergency crews were able to pinpoint the injured woman’s exact location. She wasn’t alone – she had been accompanied on the hike by another person, who stayed by her side throughout the ordeal.
On arrival, firefighters assessed the injury and quickly set about immobilising the damaged ankle. She was then carefully placed on a stretcher and carried to safety. The team navigated the rocky terrain to reach La Montua, a safer area where the woman could be handed over to medical personnel for further treatment.
The entire rescue operation was wrapped up by 4.43 PM, less than two hours after the initial call – a textbook example of speed and coordination in an emergency response.
No further details about the woman’s identity or condition have been released.
