On May 9, Fuengirola’s Palacio de la Paz will host the ‘Rocío Alfaro Calvo’ gala at 7pm, celebrating seven local volunteers for their selfless contributions.
Organised by the council, the event pays a heartfelt tribute to individuals and 17 social charities for their vital work in the community. The gala’s purpose, according to Cristina Borneo, is ‘a simple but sincere homage to those who altruistically dedicate their time to others’.
This year’s participating charities include Cudeca, providing palliative care; AFA, supporting Alzheimer’s families; Avates, aiding autism communities; Mujeres en Igualdad, promoting gender equality; Apaffer, assisting fibromyalgia patients; AECC, advancing cancer support; and Cooperación Honduras, fostering international aid. Others, like Málaga Acoge, Red Madre, Afesol, Adintre, ONCE, Fuensocial, AVOI, Abriendo Puertas, Fundación Harena, and Protección Civil, address diverse needs in the community, from migrant support to child welfare and emergency services.
Chosen by the social collectives, the honourees just go to show Fuengirola’s spirit of solidarity. The evening will feature a performance by violinist Annya, adding some elegance to the proceedings.
