Costa del Sol has always embodied a warm welcome for all, especially society’s most vulnerable, a message highlighted by Fundación Idiliq’s video short premiered at the Málaga Film Festival on March 18 which has won a prize.
The film ‘Vacaciones con Corazón’ (Kind Holidays) ended up winning the Audience Award after a standing ovation and which had been pitched to promote the charity Kind Holidays.
The motive behind the Idiliq Foundation producing the video was to encourage other hotel businesses along the Costa del Sol to get involved with the scheme to gift free holidays to those families who need them most.
Under the motto ‘Because everyone needs a break.’ Kind Holidays, whose ambassador is the BBC’s Jenny Bond, encourages hoteliers to give holidays to families with members who have serious emotional or physical difficulties, but who do not have the financial resources.
Since 2017, Idiliq Hotels and Resorts, including Wyndham Grand Costa del Sol in Mijas, has donated holidays to over 1,500 people who couldn’t otherwise afford them. In 2024, 300 beneficiaries, many of whom were children with serious illnesses, disabilities, or from disadvantaged backgrounds, enjoyed stays mixing relaxation and cultural experiences.
The Fundación Idiliq took advantage of the Málaga Film Festival to showcase their promotional video at Cines Yelmo in Plaza Mayor, and explain that the initiative provides fully funded Costa del Sol holidays to families facing hardship, demonstrating yet again that the region is a community that gives a warm welcome everyone.
The Málaga Film Festival (March 14-23) featured the film, directed by Juan Antonio Moreno and Silvia Venegas, during a March 17 screening. It captured families enjoying Málaga’s beaches, food, and warmth, moments often out of reach for those in need.
Frequently pictured as a playground for the wealthy, the Costa del Sol defies this image through efforts like Vacaciones con Corazón by welcoming everyone. The festival audience’s applause for Fundación Idiliq’s win echoed a clear message: here, everyone belongs.
