The 44-year-old takes up the post having managed just 13 senior games with Parma, but has a lengthy history with the San Siro club, both as a player and as a coach.
The Romanian played 168 times for Inter between 2007 and 2014, helping the club to three Serie A titles, as well as the treble in 2010. He then took up coaching positions, working his way up from U14 to U19 teams from 2018 to 2024.
He was chosen over fellow former player Patrick Vieira after Como refused to release Inter’s first choice Cesc Fàbregas.
Chivu replaces Simone Inzaghi, who departed earlier in the month for Al-Hilal, and will have to pick up the pieces from a heartbreaking campaign.
