Book publisher Lonely Planet has released The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide Global, a comprehensive resource designed to help LGBTQ+ travellers explore the world with confidence.
Authored by neurodivergent queer travel writer Alicia Valenski, the book goes beyond traditional travel recommendations, offering personal insights from LGBTQ+ locals in over 50 destinations worldwide.
The LGBTQ+ Travel Guide Global
The attractive-looking guide serves as both an informative resource and a celebration of LGBTQ+ culture. Featuring stunning photography, illustrated maps, and practical advice, it highlights destinations across the USA, South America, Europe, South Africa, Asia, Canada, and Australia.
According to Chris Zeiher, Lonely Planet’s Senior Director of Trade Sales & Marketing, the guide was created in response to a clear need: “Booking.com recently revealed that 59 per cent of LGBTQ+ travellers have experienced discrimination while on holiday. We recognised the queer community was looking for a guide that understands them.”
What sets this guide apart is its community-led approach. Through first-hand accounts from LGBTQ+ locals and tastemakers, readers gain invaluable travel tips, discover queer-owned businesses, and get recommendations for must-visit queer-friendly spots. The book also includes ‘Know Before You Go’ sections, which provide practical details on local languages, currency, and Pride celebrations.
Addressing safety and inclusivity for LGBTQ+ travellers
Safety remains a top concern for LGBTQ+ travellers. The guide offers essential information on rights, emergency contacts, and navigating destinations with varying levels of acceptance. By sharing intimate interviews and curated recommendations, it helps LGBTQ+ travellers make informed choices about where to stay, what to do, and how to connect with local LGBTQ+ communities.
