BATON ROUGE – Aerosmith’s hit record “Walk This Way” would’ve provided the perfect soundtrack for LSU baseball’s 11-1 win over New Orleans in seven innings Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium.
Before the end of the fourth inning, the Tigers has already matched their season average for walks per game with six. They surpassed their season mark, getting a seventh free pass in the sixth.
This team’s ability to be patient at the plate, draw free bases and cash in has been prevalent through the first 21 games this year. Tuesday night was no different.
Daniel Dickinson earned a game-high three walks and Tanner Reaves had two walks he turned into runs for the Tigers (21-1). Jake Brown was brought home on a home run from Cade Arrambide in the third that gave LSU a 4-1 lead.
LSU star first baseman Jared Jones pieced together a four-hit night, tying a career-high for hits in a single game, which he’s done twice before Tuesday night. Jones went 4 for 5 with a home run, double, three RBIs and three runs.
Ethan Frey hit two home runs in his two plate appearances on the night, including the walk-off solo homer in the seventh.
The bullpen has its first clean outing in a few games for the Tigers. Jacob Mayers and freshman Cooper Williams each navigated more than an inning apiece. Mayers didn’t allow a hit while Williams gave up a pair of hits but held New Orleans to no runs.
