Marbella is getting ready its beaches for the peak season with its celebrated Lifeguard and Rescue Service.
The service restarted during April and Easter and will now operate at weekends throughout May and on a daily basis from June, with one noteworthy change: an extended hour in July and August.
From April to June 30 and September 1 to October 15, 26 lifeguards will cover the 27-km coastline from 12pm to 6pm. In peak season (July and August), 46 lifeguards will be on duty from 11am to 7pm daily. The team includes three jet skis, two 4×4 vehicles, and two ambulances.
Local police will patrol with three daily units, one plainclothes and two uniformed, using four quads and four drones. Civil Protection will deploy ten volunteers in two shifts, based at La Bajadilla alongside the lifeguard service, equipped with two jet skis, a boat, two quads, a buggy, two motorcycles, three 4x4s, and two vans. Firefighters will participate with a boat, two jet skis, and an on-call emergency underwater unit.
To guarantee preparedness, the Marbella teams have already conducted their annual drill on Puerto Banús’s Levante beach, involving over 40 emergency personnel from local police, firefighters, civil protection, and lifeguards. The exercise tested coordination through a variety of scenarios like a missing child search, a mock boat collision, and an underwater sweep.
