La Granadella cove, located in Javea, has been named by National Geographic as one of the 25 best beaches in the Valencian Community. The prestigious travel magazine highlights its natural beauty, crystal-clear waters and privileged setting.
According to the recently published list, La Granadella stands out as one of the most remarkable beaches in the region. Only one other beach in the province of Alicante is included: the island beach of Tabarca.
What makes it so special?
- A paradise-like setting: this is a small cove with gravel and white rocks, sheltered by cliffs and surrounded by pine forests. These natural features give its waters their distinctive turquoise tone.
• Underwater biodiversity: located near the marine reserve of Cape Sant Antoni, the cove is a favourite spot for diving and snorkelling.
• Services and accessibility: despite its wild appearance, it offers essential services and has regulated access during the high season, including designated parking areas.
• Local history: the surrounding area contains historical remains such as the Granadella Castle, old lime kilns and ochre mines, inviting visitors to combine a beach day with cultural discovery.
“This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Spain,” National Geographic writes. “An early morning walk along this Alicante beach, embraced by mountains and accompanied by the sound of waves and the crunch of pebbles underfoot, is a truly uplifting experience. It is reached from the nearby tourist town of Javea via a road that runs through the La Granadella Forest Park and ends at Cape Nao. This small cove has been named Spain’s best beach on several occasions.”
A sought-after destination
Measuring just 160 metres in length, La Granadella becomes a highly popular spot in summer. For this reason, local authorities enforce visitor limits to protect its natural state and ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
La Granadella stands out as one of the Mediterranean’s finest gems. Its inclusion in National Geographic’s ranking further strengthens its international reputation and consolidates Javea’s status as a top-tier coastal destination.
