Jet2 Airline officials confirmed on Sunday that a direct flight from Alicante to Manchester, which was scheduled for Saturday, was forced to land in Barcelona due to rowdy passengers, who the Guardia Civil subsequently arrested.
“Flight LS881 diverted to Barcelona so that police could offload some disruptive passengers,” an airline spokesperson reported. “The aircraft continued to its destination after a delay.”
The spokesperson confirmed that the flight suffered a nearly three-hour delay, and added: “As a family-friendly airline, we take a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour.”
No further information has been provided, so aside from “disruptions causing chaos” aboard the flight, the airline has not detailed the incident or how many people were arrested upon landing in Barcelona.
Jet2 incidents on a roll this year
Saturday’s Jet2 incident comes after another of its flights travelling from Tenerife to Nottingham, UK, was forced to make an emergency landing following the death of a Brit who died on board the plane.
The Jet2 pilots landed at the Galician capital’s Santiago-Rosalia de Castro Airport, located north of the island of Tenerife and approximately 583 km northeast of Madrid, after reporting that a man in his 70s was suffering a severe medical emergency.
However, the man was declared dead upon arrival. This incident occurred on February 15th,
A month later, another Jet2 flight reported disruptions and asked Guardia Civil to be present upon landing to arrest 15 drunken passengers who had caused massive disruptions on board the flight from Newcastle, UK.
In January, another Jet2 incident occurred on board a flight from Salou, Spain, a beach city near Tarragona and about 90 minutes south of Barcelona.
A drunken Jet2 passenger began running up and down the aisle of a plane, reportedly “trying to expose himself.” He was so intoxicated, according to news reports, that he fell over when police in Manchester tried to arrest him.
