Scottish tourist Bob Cadger last seen in Pompeii
Cadger had travelled to Naples on March 8 for sightseeing and to watch a Serie A match between Napoli and Fiorentina on March 10. According to reports, the next day, he and a friend took a train to visit Pompeii. They somehow became separated, and Cadger never reappeared at the agreed meeting point.
Th group expected to reunite later in Naples’ Spanish Quarter, but Cadger failed to return and subsequently missed his flight back to Scotland on March 12. Concerns quickly grew as his phone had been switched off since March 11.
Earthquake in Naples hampered search efforts for Robert Cadger
Cadger’s disappearance coincided with a 4.4-magnitude earthquake in Naples, one of the most significant quakes the region has experienced in years. It disrupted search efforts as many residents were forced to sleep outdoors due to safety concerns.

After a week-long search, Cadger was found in a Naples hospital’s orthopaedic ward, where he is being treated for broken bones sustained in an accident. He is expected to remain hospitalised in Italy for at least two more weeks before he can return to Scotland.
Cadger’s family launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical costs, flights, and accommodation to support his recovery. The campaign has already raised over £3,300 (€3,920) exceeding the target of £2,000 (€2,385).
Cadger’s brother, Euan, expressed his immense relief upon hearing that his sibling had been found:
“We’ve found Bob!!! He’s been located at a hospital in Naples. From myself and all our family, I cannot thank you all enough for the shares, messages, contacts provided and all other help! The showing of love and care from everyone has been tremendous!! Thank you!” (Cited by GB News.)
