The National University of Distance Education (UNED) Denia is celebrating the 13th edition of its well-established solidarity campaign “1 Book X 1 Kilo” this year, in commemoration of the International Book Day 2025. This initiative combines the promotion of reading with support for people in vulnerable situations.
The event will take place next Wednesday, 30th April, from 10:00 to 16:00, at the entrance of the UNED Denia. As in previous years, a large turnout is expected from the local community.
The concept is simple and charitable: for every non-perishable food item or personal hygiene product donated, a book can be chosen as a token of gratitude. It’s a way of transforming culture into concrete help for those who need it most.
This year, the UNED has the support and collaboration of Cáritas Interparroquial de Dénia, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and the NGO Extiende tu Mano, who will be responsible for collecting and distributing the products among local families based on their needs.
Cáritas Interparroquial de Dénia is a social and charitable organisation of the Catholic Church that works to improve the living conditions of the most vulnerable people in the region.
In Denia, the Red Cross works in various areas, such as providing assistance to homeless people, addressing social and health emergencies, and supporting the inclusion of vulnerable groups.
The Salvation Army, on the other hand, is a Christian organisation dedicated to providing comprehensive support to homeless individuals, those affected by substance abuse, and those at risk of social exclusion, offering accommodation, food, emotional support, and reintegration programmes.
Finally, Extiende tu Mano is an NGO that aims to promote solidarity and cooperation through direct aid projects, particularly in emergency and poverty situations, supporting disadvantaged communities with food, basic goods, and social services.
Additionally, UNED is calling for citizen collaboration in volunteering to assist with the logistics of the event. Those interested in volunteering can contact the UNED Denia Student Office by calling 965 741 754.
This activity by UNED Denia aligns with the SDGs, as it is a university initiative based on sustainability, through the exchange of books donated in exchange for non-perishable food or hygiene products, promoting culture and citizen participation in solidarity with the local community.
UNED Denia is located in Plaza Jaime I. It is part of the UNED Eastern Campus Centre and offers both in-person and distance learning adapted to the needs of students from the Marina Alta and Marina Baja regions.
Public opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 9:30 to 21:00 Phone: 965 78 17 54 Email: info@denia.uned.es
