Washington wide receiver Terry McLaurin is back. Sort of. McLaurin reported to Commanders‘ training camp on Sunday, but he will not participate. Instead, McLaurin will head to the Active/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
“Terry McLaurin has reported, and we’re very happy about that,” Quinn said. “He’ll start the training camp on PUP for his ankle. On the business side, (GM) AP (Adam Peters) and the guys are still working hard with Terry and his rep. While on PUP, just like we do with the other guys, he’ll be working with the trainers to get back as soon as he can.”
The first question Quinn faced was how great it felt that McLaurin was back in camp:
“It was great. I’m really pumped that he’s here. He’s such an awesome competitor. We had a chance to spend some time together yesterday, so it was great to see him.”
Quinn did not offer an update on McLaurin’s ankle or whether he would participate in training camp once he was medically cleared.
In a corresponding move, the Commanders moved McLaurin from the Reserve/Did Not Report list to the PUP list and released undrafted rookie cornerback Fentrell Cypress.
McLaurin missed the first three days of training camp and accrued fines of $50K per day. Now that he has reported, the fines will stop.
McLaurin is entering the final year of his contract and is seeking an extension. Thus far, the two sides have reportedly not been close to an agreement.
