Tourism job growth in the Balearics: a positive start for 2025
The tourism sector in the Balearic Islands continues to expand, recording a 3.1 per cent increase in employment in January 2025. With a total of 59,897 registered workers, the industry remains a key driver of the regional economy, accounting for a significant portion of local employment.
According to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this growth follows a national trend, where tourism-related employment reached 2.62 million workers, reflecting a 4.1 per cent rise compared to the previous year. The hospitality industry saw a 6.1 per cent increase in accommodation services and a 3.9 per cent rise in food and beverage services, reinforcing the sector’s steady recovery.
To meet rising demand, the Balearic tourism sector is currently looking to fill over 100,000 new positions for the 2025 high season. Many of these roles will be offered as permanent seasonal contracts, ensuring greater job security for workers. Recruitment efforts are in full swing, with companies prioritising skilled labour to maintain high service standards.
Economic forecasts remain optimistic, with a projected 4.9 per cent increase in tourism revenue for 2025. Experts attribute this positive outlook to sector stabilisation, improved working conditions, and ongoing investments in tourism infrastructure.
As Mallorca and the wider Balearic region continue to attract millions of visitors, sustained growth in tourism employment is expected to further strengthen the islands’ global appeal.
