Runners from 128 countries and all 50 states will be participating in the 129th Boston Marathon, including 80 from Vermont. They will start in Hopkinton for the 26.2-mile trip to Boston on Monday, April 21.
The Boston Athletic Association has 31,941 participants entered and expects 30,000 to run on race day. There are 18,168 men, 13,697 women and 76 non-binary entrants, according to the BAA.
The average Boston Marathon finish time from 2000 to 2022 is 3:52:40, according to the Marathon Handbook. There are still many runners who finish after that time. The last runner in the 2024 Boston Marathon results finished in a time of 7:11:06.
How to watch the Boston Marathon: National
ESPN2 will provide live national coverage of the Boston Marathon from 9 a.m. ET until 12:30 p.m. ET, as well as some other coverage on other ESPN shows and platforms before and after that time. The marathon will be streamed on ESPN+.
How to track a Boston Marathon runner
The Boston Athletic Association app and website allow viewers to track a runner based on their bib number and by their name. The website address is https://results.baa.org/2025/. The app is available in the Apple and Google Play app stores by searching “Boston Athletic Association.
On both devices, you can also create a list of “favorite” runners and track their progress throughout the race.
