WhatsApp has taken the classic, no-frills WalkieTalkie and given it a digital glow-up. The new feature allows group chat members to talk in real-time using their voices, live and unscripted — all without spamming everyone with missed calls or ten-part voice note sagas.
No buzz, no fuss — just your voice, live
Here’s how it works: only those online at that moment can hear and join the conversation. No dings. No pop-ups. No chatlog graveyard. Once the chat ends, it vanishes without a trace. You press a button to talk, let go to listen. It’s smooth, spontaneous, and just disruptive enough to feel exciting again.
How to activate it (and avoid looking clueless)
- Go into any WhatsApp group.
- Scroll up to the last message.
- Slide your finger up.
- Hit Connect when it appears.
Boom. You’re live. Anyone else online can now jump in. Press the mic to speak, release to shut up. It’s like CB radio, only you’re not stuck in a truck on the M25.
