Oregon football has created quite the NFL pipeline with its quarterback room each of the last two seasons under Dan Lanning: first with Bo Nix, then followed by Dillon Gabriel, drafted by the Denver Broncos and Cleveland Browns, respectively.
It’s a trend that Dante Moore looks to continue this season.
After an up-and-down freshman season at UCLA and learning behind Gabriel last season, the 6-foot-4 quarterback now has the keys to the offense of a Ducks team expected to once again to challenge for a Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff berth.
Moore, who hails from Detroit, put together a strong showing in Oregon’s commanding Week 1 win over Montana State, completing 18 of 23 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns on the day.
Here’s what to know on who Oregon’s starting quarterback is in 2025:
Who is Oregon’s starting quarterback?
Oregon is starting Moore at quarterback this season, making him the successor to Gabriel in Eugene for Lanning’s squad.
Moore served as the backup to Gabriel last season at Oregon after he transferred to the Ducks from UCLA following the 2023 college football season. He took a redshirt season last year at Oregon after appearing in just four games and completing 7 of 8 passes for 49 yards.

He flipped his commitment to UCLA after now-Arizona State head coach Kenny Dillingham was hired away from Oregon in November 2022 as the Ducks’ offensive coordinator.
Why did Dante Moore transfer to Oregon?
In his lone season with the Bruins, Moore appeared in nine games and threw for 1,610 yards and 11 touchdowns to nine interceptions. He entered the portal in 2023 after his freshman season at UCLA, in which Chip Kelly left the Bruins for the offensive coordinator position at Ohio State.
“When I hit the portal … I kind of knew where I was going already,” Moore told The Register-Guard, part of the USA TODAY Network, on why he transferred to Oregon. “(Lanning) just checked up on me, laughed, joked around, got a visit out here and I knew it was time to get back out.”
Moore spent last season learning under Gabriel, who transferred to Oregon from Oklahoma at the same time Moore transferred from UCLA. He beat out Austin Novosad, redshirt freshman Luke Moga, freshman Akili Smith and junior walk-on Brock Thomas for the Ducks’ starting job this season.
