Nestled among sunlit terraces and hills brushed with wild herbs, Fuente Victoria remains one of the Alpujarra’s quiet strongholds of tradition. On Monday, 26 May, this small village in the province of Almería will host a day-long excursion centred on wine, craftsmanship and regional cuisine—offering a glimpse into the rhythms of life in this mountainous corner of Andalusia.
Generations in every glass
The day begins at Bodega Cepa Bosquet, a family-run winery where the Bosquet family has been producing wine for three generations. What began as Gabriel Bosquet’s personal project has now passed into the capable hands of his daughter Virginia, who leads the winemaking process with a blend of scientific precision and inherited know-how.
The vineyard, located in the Laujar-Alpujarra area, still relies on manual harvesting. Grapes are picked by hand and transported in small crates to avoid bruising. Fermentation is carried out under tightly controlled conditions, and each barrel—American or French oak—is selected for its ability to enhance the unique character of every vintage.
Cepa Bosquet’s wines have received several official recognitions, including:
- Indicación Geográfica Protegida: Vino de la Tierra de Laujar-Alpujarra
- Calidad Certificada, awarded by the Andalusian regional government
- Gold Category, Gourmet Sabores Almería
Despite the accolades, the Bosquets maintain that their greatest achievement is the trust of their clients. Visitors to the bodega will be guided through the winemaking process, from grape maceration to malolactic fermentation, during which the wine’s natural acidity is softened to produce a rounder, more balanced flavour. The tour concludes with a tasting of the house selection—reds aged for up to eighteen months and crisp, aromatic whites.
A craft rooted in the earth
From the vineyard, the itinerary continues to Alfarería González Castellón, a ceramics workshop where local potter Gabriel González shapes clay with techniques passed down through generations. Watching him at the wheel is to witness an almost meditative craft: jugs, bowls and decorative pieces emerge from blocks of raw earth, each reflecting a quiet mastery of form and function.
Rustic flavours at the table
The final stop is Mesón Ruta L’Alpujarras, located in Laujar de Andarax, considered the western gateway to the Alpujarra region. For over 35 years, Javi and his family have been serving dishes deeply rooted in local culinary traditions—cured meats, mountain stews, seasonal vegetables and desserts made on-site. With its wood-beamed interior and generous portions, the mesón captures the unpretentious spirit of the highlands.
The itinerary includes all visits, a full lunch, transport by coach, and the guidance of an English-speaking host throughout the day.
